Heston Kjerstad’s Grand Slam Sparks Orioles’ Electrifying Triumph Over Rangers.

Heston Kjerstad’s two-out grand slam in the fifth inning powered the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-5 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers on Saturday night. Anthony Santander also contributed with a homer and an RBI double, while Orioles starter Cade Povich secured his first major league win. This win extended Baltimore’s winning streak to four games. The Orioles set a club record with 60 home runs in June, the most in a single month in team history. For the Rangers, Corey Seager, Derek Hill, Nathaniel Lowe, and Adolis Garcia each hit home runs. However, the loss marked Texas’ sixth consecutive defeat and their 11th loss in 15 games.

Orioles closer Craig Kimbrel began the ninth inning by walking Leody Taveras, who then stole second. Kimbrel ultimately recorded his 19th save, leaving two Rangers on base.

Rangers starter Michael Lorenzen (4-4) took the loss, giving up five runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts over five innings. With the Orioles trailing 2-1, Kjerstad blasted Lorenzen’s 1-1 cutter over the center field fence, marking the 25-year-old designated hitter’s second homer of the season, both occurring this week after his recent call-up from Triple-A Norfolk. Povich (1-1), a 24-year-old left-hander who debuted in the majors earlier this month, allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks over five innings.

Seager initiated the scoring with his 15th home run of the season in the first inning. Santander’s 22nd homer tied the game in the second. Hill homered in the fifth, putting the Rangers back in the lead with his first home run since 2022.

Lowe’s two-run shot off Bryan Baker in the sixth was his fourth of the season, narrowing the gap to 5-4. Santander’s ground-rule double in the seventh provided the Orioles with some cushion, although they left the bases loaded. Garcia’s 16th homer in the eighth inning brought the Rangers within one run again.
