Kemba Walker, who won an NCAA title with UConn and earned four NBA All-Star selections, who most recently played for AS Monaco in France’s LNB Pro A league, has retired at the age of 34. He achieved four NBA All-Star selections and was named to the All-NBA team in 2019, but his career was marred by injuries.
Walker spent his first eight NBA seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer before joining the Boston Celtics in 2019 free agency. However, injuries plagued him during his time in Boston, and he never played more than 56 games in a season afterward. In 2021, the Celtics traded Walker to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who subsequently waived him before he played a game. He briefly played for the New York Knicks, appearing in just 37 games, and had a short stint with the Dallas Mavericks during the 2022-23 season.
AS Monaco signed Walker in July, but his performance was limited, averaging 4.4 points and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 38.9 percent from the field.
In addition to his professional career, Walker is celebrated in UConn basketball history. He was named Most Outstanding Player in the 2011 Final Four, leading the Huskies to a national championship.
