This free agency period hasn’t been kind to the Golden State Warriors.
The once-dominant NBA dynasty lost key players, including future Hall of Fame guard Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks and point guard Chris Paul to the San Antonio Spurs.
However, the Warriors did manage to bolster their roster by acquiring forward Kyle Anderson on a three-year, $27 million deal through a sign-and-trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
While Anderson isn’t the scoring powerhouse Thompson was, he will add depth to the Warriors’ bench. He’s a reliable 3-point shooter and a strong defender, capable of playing both small forward and power forward at 6-foot-9 and 230 pounds.
Last season, Anderson averaged 6.4 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Timberwolves, who secured the third seed in the Western Conference and made it to the Western Conference Finals.
Since winning the 2022 NBA championship, the Warriors have been gradually declining. Unless they manage a significant trade this summer, their slide into irrelevancy might continue.
They were eliminated in the second round of the 2023 playoffs, and this past season, they lost to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in tournament, missing the playoffs entirely.
The Warriors are at a crossroads, facing tough decisions on how to reclaim their championship form.
