Here’s a Recap of Day 6 at Packers Training Camp

The Green Bay Packers‘ rookie defensive backs made a significant impact again. Interceptions by safety Evan Williams and cornerback Kalen King stood out during the sixth practice of Packers training camp on Sunday.

**Jordan Love’s Performance**

Jordan Love’s second day of training camp didn’t show much improvement from the first.

On Saturday, he completed 11-of-20 passes; on Sunday, he went 9-of-16.

Coach Matt LaFleur emphasized the importance of practice: “It shows the value of practice when everybody else has had four practices. To get better and be consistent, you’ve got to practice.”

Love’s first two passes were almost intercepted by Jaire Alexander and Xavier McKinney rather than being completed to Dontayvion Wicks and Christian Watson.

However, there were some notable throws. Love connected with Wicks over the middle against Eric Stokes for a big catch-and-run. Shortly after, he delivered a perfect pass to Grant DuBose on a deep route for a gain of at least 20 yards. Though Wicks couldn’t secure a tough sideline throw, the pass was well-placed.

Rookie safety Evan Williams commented on Love’s skill: “He’s really smart. He changes his count pre-snap to read blitzes and movements, fitting balls into seemingly impossible windows. Practicing against him is great for our defense. If we can perform well against him, we’ll be prepared for other quarterbacks.”

**Standout Player**

Rookie cornerback Kalen King was a notable prospect in this year’s draft. At Penn State, he earned All-American honors in 2022 with two interceptions and 20 passes defensed. Despite being hyped as a potential first-round pick, King had no interceptions and only two passes defensed in 2023, causing his draft stock to fall to the third-to-last pick.

On Sunday, King excelled. During individual drills, he had excellent coverage on a deep incompletion to Samori Toure.

In an 11-on-11 period, he intercepted a short pass by Jordan Love and returned it for a touchdown.

“I was just reading the quarterback, trusting my instincts, and making a play on the ball,” King said.

During a backups-vs.-backups 2-minute drill, King broke up two passes by Michael Pratt intended for Julian Hicks, almost intercepting one.

After practice, King was surrounded by reporters, with fellow defensive backs Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine playfully celebrating his big day.
