The Bulls’ top concern regarding Matas Buzelis after the Summer League

The Chicago Bulls had a quiet 2024 NBA Draft, holding only one pick, the 11th overall, with which they selected Matas Buzelis from G League Ignite. Despite initial concerns that the Bulls might need to trade up to secure him, they were able to draft Buzelis at 11th without making a move. He recently completed the NBA Summer League with the Bulls.

During the Summer League, Buzelis showcased impressive skills. He played confidently, demonstrated craftiness, and scored effectively. His performance earned him the #3 spot in SB Nation’s ranking of all rookies from the Summer League.

SB Nation’s Ricky O’Donnell noted, “Buzelis was expected to be a lottery pick due to his perimeter potential at 6’10”, but he also made an impact with his energy and activity as he develops. The 19-year-old may struggle with scoring efficiency as a rookie, but his high motor will keep him productive as he works on his body and shooting.”

While Buzelis showed promise, there are areas for improvement as he heads into his first NBA season.

**Physical Development**

At 6’10” and 210 pounds, Buzelis has impressive height and athleticism. However, adding more muscle could enhance his game, particularly around the rim. Although he was effective in the Summer League, the added physicality of the regular season will present new challenges.

**Three-Point Shooting**

Buzelis struggled with three-point shooting in the Summer League, averaging just 21% (1.2/5.6 per game). Improving this aspect would make him a more versatile and difficult player to defend.

Overall, Buzelis is close to becoming a well-rounded player. Enhancing his deep shooting and adding muscle could significantly boost his impact on the court. He averaged 16.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game in the Summer League, along with 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks. His Summer League performance indicates a bright future for the young talent.
