Breaking News: Isaiah Horton, Miami’s Top Receiver for 2025, Heads to Transfer Portal
Isaiah Horton, who was set to be Miami’s top returning receiver for the 2025 season, is entering the transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Horton finished the 2024 season ranked third on the team with 56 receptions for 616 yards and fourth with five touchdowns. He still has two years of eligibility remaining, which makes him an attractive option for other programs.
Horton joined Miami in the 2022 recruiting class as the 372nd overall prospect, the 56th ranked wide receiver, and the 11th best player from Tennessee, hailing from Murfreesboro, Oakland. After redshirting his freshman year in 2022, Horton made a strong impact in 2023 with 13 catches for 168 yards and one touchdown. His role expanded in 2024, especially after Colbie Young transferred to Georgia. Horton became a consistent target for All-American quarterback Cam Ward, playing behind Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George. Standing 6’4″ and weighing 205 pounds, Horton’s size and production make him a highly sought-after player in the transfer portal.
With Horton’s departure, Miami could be without its top four wide receivers for the 2025 season. Restrepo and George have exhausted their eligibility, and Sam Brown is still considering entering the NFL Draft. As a result, Miami has been actively pursuing wide receivers in the transfer portal since it opened on December 9. Horton’s transfer leaves a significant gap, especially given his height, which was a unique asset for the Hurricanes. The only other tall receivers on the roster are Brown and Chance Robinson, both standing 6’2″.
Miami’s future wide receiver group includes incoming freshmen Ny Carr, Chance Robinson, and JoJo Trader, who could help fill the void left by Horton, George, and possibly Brown. Ray Ray Joseph, a rising redshirt sophomore, is expected to step into the slot receiver role for 2025, depending on how Miami bolsters the position through the transfer portal.
Horton’s transfer destination is already being speculated, with On3 predicting he will sign with Alabama. Reports suggest that an agreement between Horton and Alabama could be finalized soon. During his time at Miami, Horton recorded 70 receptions for 790 yards and six touchdowns.
