Spring Training is just about two weeks away, and Alex Bregman remains a free agent.

He’s been one of the most talked-about free agents this offseason, second only to Juan Soto. While there was a lot of chatter around the New York Mets and his potential move there, that interest faded quickly. Somehow, Bregman is still available, and there’s no clear resolution in sight.

Throughout the offseason, Bregman has frequently been linked to the Boston Red Sox, but that pairing now seems less likely. At one point, it seemed like a great fit, but ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently stated on The Michael Kay Show that a deal with Boston isn’t “particularly likely.”

Passan, known for his credibility as a baseball insider, isn’t optimistic about this possibility. If he says a deal with the Red Sox isn’t likely, that’s likely the case.

While Bregman remains unsigned, the Houston Astros have resurfaced in the conversation, and there are other teams also showing interest. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Boston will be his landing spot.

If the Red Sox miss out on Bregman, they still have other options that could be helpful to the team. Though Bregman would certainly improve the Red Sox, they may prefer not to block the path to the majors for prospects like Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer, or Roman Anthony.
