Blockbuster Proposed Jets Trade Brings Young Franchise QB from AFC Team

The New York Jets’ quarterback situation is uncertain both for the present and future, and one potential way to change their QB trajectory is by executing a major trade-up in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Brad Gagnon, writing for Bleacher Report, proposed such a move, where the Jets acquire the No. 1 overall pick from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for multiple future draft assets.

The proposed trade would involve the Jets sending the Titans their 2025 first-round pick (No. 7 overall), their 2025 second-round pick (No. 42 overall), and a 2026 first-round pick. This would allow the Jets to secure the top pick, giving them the chance to select one of the two highly coveted quarterbacks in the draft, Cam Ward from Miami or Shedeur Sanders from Colorado. Gagnon emphasized that the Jets’ main goal in this trade would be to ensure they have their pick of the two top quarterback prospects, in a draft that may only see two quarterbacks selected in the first round.

ESPN NFL analyst Ben Solak supported the idea of the Jets moving up to the No. 1 pick, noting that the Jets might be more aggressive in this pursuit than other teams like the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders have more cap space to address their needs in free agency, which could make the Jets’ position at No. 7 overall more attractive to the Titans. Solak also suggested that a move from No. 7 to No. 1 could be relatively affordable, given the unique dynamics of the upcoming draft.

The trade proposal from Bleacher Report may seem like it involves a hefty price, but when evaluated against the NFL draft value chart, it’s almost a fair deal. The No. 1 overall pick is worth 3,000 points, while the combined value of the Jets’ proposed package is close, at 2,980 points.

However, an alternative strategy for the Jets could involve not selling off all their valuable draft picks. Instead, they could include a player, such as young star running back Breece Hall, to sweeten the deal. This approach would reduce the number of picks the Jets would need to give up while potentially addressing Tennessee’s need for a playmaker. Hall could be an appealing addition because he’s at a position that doesn’t carry the same value across the league as others, and his rookie contract is nearing its expiration. As the Jets might be reluctant to give up too many draft assets early in the tenure of their new head coach, Aaron Glenn, and general manager, Darren Mougey, this creative alternative could allow them to pursue a top quarterback without depleting their draft capital entirely.
