Kellen Moore, 36, a former quarterback with the Detroit Lions, has been named the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints. This marks the final head coaching hire of the season, as seven teams—including the Chicago Bears, with Ben Johnson, and the New York Jets, with Aaron Glenn—also tapped new leadership.

Moore’s career began at Boise State, where he was a four-year starter. He finished his college career with impressive stats: 1,658 pass attempts, 14,667 yards, 142 touchdowns, and just 28 interceptions, boasting a remarkable passer rating of 118.61. Moore’s success as a starter was evident, going 50-3, and he never lost more than one game in a season.

Though Moore was signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2012, he never played in a regular-season game with the team, staying behind Matthew Stafford on the depth chart. However, Moore went on to make two starts for the Dallas Cowboys in 2015, eventually playing for two more seasons before retiring. He joined the Cowboys’ coaching staff as quarterbacks coach in 2018, quickly rising to offensive coordinator in 2019, a position he held until 2022.

After leaving Dallas, Moore became the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers under Brandon Staley in 2023, though Staley was fired mid-season. Moore then moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles, helping them secure a victory in Super Bowl LIX. His journey now takes him to New Orleans, where he will take on the challenge of leading the Saints as their new head coach.
