Mason Cox, the Collingwood ruckman, recently opened up about his recent finger injury, revealing that he hasn’t watched the footage of the accident because he doesn’t want to be upset with the teammate responsible for the mishap. The injury occurred last week during training, and unfortunately, it means Cox will be sidelined from contact sessions as he focuses on recovery.
With the Collingwood Magpies set to face off against GWS on March 9 for their first match of the season, Cox is racing against the clock to get himself fit in time. Although he’s hoping it will only take about three to four weeks to heal, he’s still uncertain about the exact timeline for his recovery. “I’m hoping it’s only a three, four week injury,” Cox shared with reporters, adding, “there’s a possibility for round zero, but we’ve got to get more scans on Monday and find out.”

Despite the fact that the injury happened in a friendly, accidental manner, Cox has opted not to watch the footage of the incident. He admits he would rather avoid knowing who was responsible for the injury, fearing it could cause tension. “I actually don’t know (who did it), I haven’t looked at the film yet,” Cox explained. “I don’t really want to know because I think I’ll be upset towards them at some point, and I just don’t need that.”
Cox’s candidness about the injury shows the kind of mental and emotional side that often gets overlooked in the world of sports. Even though the incident was unintentional, it’s clear that the 32-year-old is focusing on staying positive and keeping his energy directed toward recovery, rather than harboring any negative feelings. Whether he’s ready in time for the Magpies’ season opener will depend on the results of his upcoming scans.
