Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the Houston Texans have locked in one of their rising stars. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the team has signed wide receiver Nico Collins to a three-year extension worth approximately $24 million per year.
At 25 years old, Collins is the latest wide receiver to receive a significant contract extension this offseason, highlighting the growing value of the position in the NFL.
Drafted in the third round by the Texans in 2021 from Michigan, Collins had a breakout 2023 season, catching passes from rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. He recorded 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns, significantly improving from his previous best season in 2022 with 481 yards.
Stroud had a 129.6 QB rating when targeting Collins, underscoring Collins’ importance to the team.
This extension follows Houston’s acquisition of Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills in a blockbuster trade earlier in the offseason. The Texans also added Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals.
After winning the AFC South with 10 victories in the 2023 campaign, the Texans are considered one of the most talented young teams in the NFL. Extending Collins further strengthens their promising roster.
