A Dodgers star signs with a rival team, shaking up the offseason.

The Chicago White Sox have announced that they have signed former Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Andre Lipcius to a minor league contract, which includes an invitation to participate in spring training. This move comes after Lipcius and the Dodgers parted ways following just a single year together.

In 2024, Lipcius spent the entire season playing for Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he had been assigned after being acquired by the Dodgers from the Detroit Tigers. Over the course of 140 games, Lipcius put up an impressive .271/.351/.458 batting line, hitting 25 home runs, driving in 89 RBIs, and striking out 145 times. Despite this solid performance, Lipcius never received a call-up to the big leagues, even though many fans were vocal in their desire to see him given an opportunity.

Lipcius now returns to the American League Central, where he has spent a large portion of his career. The Tigers originally drafted him in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft, and the Tennessee native made his major league debut with Detroit in late 2023. During his brief stint with the Tigers, he posted a respectable .286/.342/.400 slash line over 13 games. However, after the 2023 season, Detroit removed him from their 40-man roster and eventually traded him to the Dodgers. Before the start of the 2024 season, the Dodgers outrighted Lipcius, leading to his departure from the organization.

Although his major league experience is limited, Lipcius represents a solid depth option for the White Sox. Across more than 1,200 plate appearances at the Triple-A level, he has posted a .276/.360/.444 batting line. While his power numbers may not be eye-popping—his 2024 home run total was somewhat inflated by the hitter-friendly environment of the Pacific Coast League—Lipcius is known for his excellent plate discipline.

Throughout his career, Lipcius has primarily played third base, both in college at the University of Tennessee and within the Tigers’ system. However, in 2024, he saw considerable time at first base with Oklahoma City and even spent some time at second base, showcasing his versatility in the field.
