Brandon Beane Starts Camp by Playfully Dismissing Josh Allen’s Mystery Critic

After watching Josh Allen excel in red-zone drills to kick off training camp on Wednesday, Bills general manager Brandon Beane addressed the quarterback’s latest anonymous critic.

“There are idiots everywhere,” Beane remarked.

He was responding to a recent quote from an anonymous NFL executive cited by ESPN, who called Allen “one of the more overrated players in the NFL.”

Beane dismissed the comment as ignorant and defended Buffalo’s franchise player, who has rewritten many of the team’s single-season passing and scoring records in his six years and led the four-time AFC East champions to five consecutive playoff appearances.

“I don’t get it. If I was going to use a rating, I’d say underrated before overrated,” Beane said. “I’m biased, but I’m tired of hearing it.”

When asked if the comment might fuel Allen’s competitive nature, Beane said the quarterback is self-motivated.

“He’s got a natural chip, and I don’t think what this person said would change that,” Beane explained. “He’s coming into this year with a chip. He wants a title. Every year we don’t win it, it digs a deeper chip, and that’s what motivates him.”
