For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the focus this offseason was on maintaining their core group and setting up for the future. Jason Licht nearly achieved a perfect offseason, securing new contracts for Antoine Winfield Jr., Baker Mayfield, and Mike Evans.
However, one major issue remains unresolved.
Tristan Wirfs, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, is pushing for a new deal before the season starts. He held out during mandatory minicamp and is continuing a more subdued holdout as training camp begins. Despite this, Wirfs has been participating in workouts, suggesting that a resolution is imminent.
Yet, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Sunday that the Buccaneers and Wirfs are “miles apart” on a new contract, with the team set to start padded practices soon.
