The Bears announced on Saturday that wide receiver Rome Odunze would be sidelined from practice due to tightness in his hamstring.
Selected as the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Odunze had begun forging a connection with Bears quarterback Caleb Williams during Friday’s practice. The duo had previously trained together during the draft process before becoming teammates.
Given the Bears’ past experiences with lingering soft-tissue injuries, such as those suffered by former Bear Alshon Jeffery, Odunze’s injury necessitates a cautious approach to prevent further complications. While this setback temporarily interrupts the development of chemistry between Odunze and Williams, prioritizing the receiver’s recovery is paramount.
Reflecting on the importance of building rapport, Odunze stated on Friday, “I think it’s the time you put into it… It takes time and reps to continue to build that connection with any quarterback and within the offense.” He emphasized the significance of gaining mutual comfort, engaging in repetitions, and exchanging feedback to enhance their on-field synergy.
