Carlton ruckman Tom De Koning was treated in the hospital overnight after being diagnosed with a collapsed lung following yesterday’s win over North Melbourne.
De Koning experienced shortness of breath in the locker room after the game and was immediately sent to the hospital for further evaluation.
Upon arrival, he was diagnosed and received the necessary treatment and is now recovering.
The 25-year-old also had scans today after his foot was stepped on during the game against the Kangaroos.
The scans revealed a fractured foot, and De Koning will undergo surgery to ensure a full recovery.
He will be sidelined for the rest of the home-and-away season.
“While the news is tough for Tom, we are primarily relieved that he is feeling okay and recovering after his hospital treatment overnight,” said Carlton General Manager of Football Brad Lloyd.
“Tom showed symptoms of illness within half an hour after the game ended, so our priority was to get him the necessary treatment immediately, and he is now recovering with proper care.
“Tom will have surgery this week to fix his foot injury, which is expected to keep him out for the rest of the home-and-away season. We will continue to monitor his recovery during this time.”
