Blockbuster trade: Yankees exploring potential deal for White Sox All-Star player.

The New York Yankees are still awaiting a decision regarding Juan Soto, but they are reportedly involved in discussions for a potential blockbuster trade that could significantly impact their roster. Despite having Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon set to lead the starting rotation in 2024, general manager Brian Cashman has made it clear that the Yankees are actively seeking another top-tier starting pitcher to bolster their staff.

According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Yankees are said to be “in the mix” for a possible blockbuster trade involving Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet. While the specifics of the trade package remain unclear, Cotillo shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the Yankees are competing with other teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, for Crochet’s services. It appears that while the Boston Red Sox are monitoring the situation, they are not currently aggressive in their pursuit.

Crochet, who was one of the most talked-about potential trade candidates during the MLB trade deadline, had an impressive 2023 season, making his first career All-Star appearance. In his first year as a full-time starter, the left-hander posted a 6-12 record with a 3.58 ERA, 209 strikeouts, and a 1.07 WHIP over 146 innings in 32 starts. His performance has made him one of the most coveted pitchers on the market.

The Yankees were reportedly involved in trade discussions for Crochet earlier this season, but the asking price at the time was considered too high for their liking. Now, with the winter trade season approaching, the Yankees may be revisiting the possibility of acquiring him. The trade package that the White Sox would demand could likely include top prospects like Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones, though it’s uncertain whether the Yankees are willing to part with such valuable assets.

As the MLB Winter Meetings draw near, this potential blockbuster trade is something to keep an eye on. The Yankees’ pursuit of Crochet could set the tone for the team’s offseason plans, particularly in their effort to strengthen the starting rotation ahead of next season.
